‘Fantastic producing Brazilian Chilli”
Cabaça Vermelha is another amazing Brazilian chilli, and it gives a great punch heat wise. It is a beautiful big bushy plant, that grows well in a pot, to about 1 metre high.
The plant produces amazing little pear shaped pods, which start of green and ripen into a bright red colour. The pods are 3 cm long and 1-1.5 cm wide.
All in all this chilli variety is a real beauty, that will stand out in your garden. The plant looks like a small leafy bush chock full of red coloured pears. This species is easy to grow and you will get lots of pods.
They would be great for pickling or to heat up any dish.
How to pickled Cabaça Vermelha chillies:
- 500 g Cabaça Vermelha chillies
- 250 g water
- 250 ml white vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 1 tsp peppercorns
- 2 bay leaves
Wash whole chillies and make a few holes in each chilli with a pin. Heat water, vinegar, sugar, salt, coriander seeds, peppercorns and bay leaves until sugar and salt dissolve. Do not boil the it, only heat it up till it is hot.
Put the chillies in jars and pour the hot vinegar mixture over chillies. Then seal it. Check the liquid levels in the jar after a week as you may need to top up with some more vinegar mixture to ensure no air gets to the chillies. That will prevent them to oxidise and turn bad.
