Pimenta de Neyde
“Fantastic looking deep coloured leaves and black pods.”
Pimenta de Neyde originates from Brazil. It is named after the lady, that discovered it.
Ours are in pots and are 1.5 meter high with deep purple/black foliage. The pods start off a purple blackish colour and they don’t change their colour. The taste is great and the heat is surprisingly HOT. One of our favourite looking plants. We have a couple growing next to our front door.
All round an excellent variety, that grows well with fantastic looking deep coloured leaves and black pods.
Flavour wise: A bit bitter with a light habanero flavour.
Heat level: Hot
10-12 chilli seeds per pack.

I tried to grow these last season but I had bad luck with them. Maybe they did not like my soil or my climate, dunno.
They were very beautiful to look at, but I only got a couple of pods out of them. Flavor and heat remind me of a habanero.
They are special for they unique color, so if you are looking for an eye catcher, the pimenta de neyde is a go to pepper for sure.
