Red Cayenne Pepper

Red Cayenne Pepper derived from the Tupi Indians in the Cayenne district of French Guyana. Later on around 1500AD the Portuguese transported the Cayenne from there to Asia.
The Cayenne chilli is long and thin with a sharp point, however there are numerous varieties ranging in size from 20 cm long by 2 cm wide and down to miniature size as little as 1.25 cm long by 3 mm wide.
The varieties used prolifically in Indian cookery are generally between 5 cm to 10 cm in length. More of a tree-like than bush plant, growing to about 1 meter in height. Heat level is 30,000 to 50,000 SHU.
