Wae Mae Wo Chilli
Capsicum Annuum
“Likes cooler temperatures”
Wae Mae Wo chilli is Capsicum Annuum from Korea. The plant gets tall and slender, this one is around a metre and a half tall in a pot and thrives in a shady area. This variety seems to like cooler temperatures – ours was still flowering during the winter here. In a pot it produces a decent amount of pods. However, if it is planted in the ground, it would get much bigger and bushier and produce even more.
The pods start green then go to red, get about 6-7 cm long, pointed and 1 cm wide. Taste-wise it is beautiful, an instant fruity and then salty flavour. It is crunchy like an apple, it even tastes a bit like an apple. Because of the salty flavour it would go great in any stir-fry, or a salad.
Great plant, it gets tall so it is not for the space challenged, nice heat and great flavour.
Flavour: Fruity and Salty
