Description
Purple Pumpkin Chilli
Capsicum Chinense
“Everyone should have the chance to have a go with this beauty.”
Purple Pumpkin was originally a Purple Bhut Jolokia, but then something extraordinary happened, out of the blue it completely changed genetically – all done by mother nature. We loved the shape and the amazing colour change, so we kept it and kept growing it and we have now been growing it for 8 years. It is now one of our favourite plants.
Year after year it has been growing like this and fills with hundreds of pods over the season. However, it is a phenotype, so we cannot guarantee that it is 100 % stable. But, that being said, this plant is so amazing, we thought that everyone should have the chance to have a go with this beauty.
The Purple Pumpkin grows 0.5 m high in a pot and will grow even bigger, if you plant it in the ground. They like a fair bit of sun and feed.
The plant is bushy and a great producer of little pumpkin shaped pods, that can get up to golf ball size. The cool thing is the colour: They start off a light green, then go blotchy purple, then purple, then go to a blotchy red (some via orange) and finish off a bright red.
The plant is absolutely breathtaking when it is full of pods.
Flavour: Crunchy, sweet naga (ghost) flavour without the usual bitter stingy flavour. It is rounded, sweet, and really nice.
Heat Level: Extremely hot
