Peperoncino Chilli

‘Mild famous Italian Chilli’

C. Annuum

Peperoncino is an old variety. The first time this chilli was described was in a recipe was in 1694. A Neapolitan cook chopped Peperoncino chillies, tomatoes, onions, peppermint, salt and oil together. He called this recipe ‘Salsa ala Spagnola’.

In the Italian cuisine today, this mild chilli is frequently used. The Italians consider the flavour of chillies to be more important than the heat. It is for this exact reason the italians love to use the Peperoncino chilli.

This chilli is mild, tasty, and in our opinion, an excellent chilli for pickling. You could also try to make the ‘Salsa ala Spagnola’.

The plant grows well in a pot to about 50-60 cm in height, so if you are space challenged this chilli would grow well on a balcony. Firstly, the pods start off green, and when they are fully mature they turn red. They are slightly ribbed and thin walled.

Pods size: 6-7 cm long and 2 cm wide

Flavour: Sweet capsicum flavour

Heat: Mild

10-12 Peperoncino chilli seeds per pack.
