Golden Crystal Chilli
‘Amazing producer of hot flavoursome chillies’
C. Baccatum
The Golden Crystal Chilli is a new variation of the Aji Crystal Chilli. The original Crystal comes from Curico in Chile.
It is an amazing producer and it’s one of the first to produce pods, and furthermore it has a long season.
The plant grows well in a pot to about 60-70 cm in height and produces yields of 8-10 cm long pendant shaped pods. The pods start off a very light green and end up golden peachy colour, when they are fully mature.
Flavour wise they have a delicious light fruity flavour with a slight tang and would be great for any type of cooking, making a jam, a salsa or an amazing chilli powder.
The heat level is much hotter than the original Aji Crystal, so what a bonus.
All in all the Golden Crystal Chilli is easy to grow, great producer of delicious pods and it looks spectacular when it’s full of these peachy peppers.
Click on this link ‘Hot Salsa’ for a great recipe from Jamie Oliver. We use one more chilli than Jamie does and it is delicious.
Flavour wise: Light fruity flavour with a tang. Almost like a Granny Smith apple
Heat level: Upper med heat and have a great back of the throat burn.
