Black Cobra Chilli
C. Pubescens
The Black Cobra is a Pubescens variety from unknown origin. We got it and the Orange Cobra a few years ago from our mate Bob in the US. Some people call it ‘The Goatsweed’, but the Goatsweed is completely different.
It has furry stems and leaves, stays fairly small and gets to about 50 cm high. This is a chilli that grows more out than up and once get pods, they get droopy.
A great producer and keeps going through the mild winter in Australia, so it likes cool temperatures, and they like filtered sun as well. The pods are similar to Goatsweed but smaller, 4-5 cm long and just over 1 cm wide, start off green but go to a bright black then a really bright red once ripe. They go great in pots and would really bush out, if you put the plant in the ground.
