Bishops Crown Pepper
C. Baccatum
The Bishops Crown Pepper is an amazing chilli from Barbados. They are also known as ‘Fryers Hat’ or ‘Monk’s Hat’.
The plant grows well in a pot to 1.2 metre high, but we have had it in the ground and it was massive. The branches were dropping from the weight of the fruit. It produces hundreds of three-sided peppers which resemble a Bishop’s Crown. Size wise the pods are 3-4 cm long and 5-7 cm wide and mature from light green, to orange, to red.
They are excellent stuffed with cheese and grilled, in salads, on top of cheese or just as a healthy snack.
All in all it is one of the best producing chillies, it looks stunning and the pods taste sweet and fruity. We can only recommend growing this great chilli,
Flavour wise: Sweet and fruity
Heat level: Mid heat

This Chilli exceeded my expectations. It was late to start compared to my other chillis, but the potted plant is still producing fruit uncovered in the middle of June in Melbourne! It makes a delicious hot sauce that we’ve been adding to all our Mexican dishes.
